Starbucks Dreadlocks?

I’m on a quest to find the best coffee/frap/espresso high that I can find. We had tons of errands to run today, so we had to start out early after Kristin and Jewell left for school. Rob bought me a Starbucks Vanilla Frappaccino first thing to get me going… Every time I drink one of these, I have to wonder the story behind their logo (And I’m sorry, but is that lady sporting her own set of dreads??)… I snapped a quick cell pic for reference:

(Looks like it could be dreads to me :-P)

To find out info about the actual evolution of the Starbucks Logo, I found this link (tho no mention of dreadlocks).

Anyway, after the frap, we ran through McD’s drive thru and got the beloved Large Vanilla Iced Coffee, and then on to Springfield to Big Momma’s for an ICED ESPRESSO DOUBLE SHOT…. I was okay before that, but I was GREAT afterwards… Then on to Hobby Lobby… (haha.. That’s the next post)…

How DREADful?

Well, much to my husband and children’s dismay, I have chosen to become a dreadhead. Two weeks ago yesterday (Which would have been March 3rd, 2008), I put dreads into my hair. The first stages of dreadlocks can look pretty scary, but its a journey in life that I have wanted for a long time now. Contrary to popular belief, dreadlocks are not made with mud, paper mache paste, or anything like that (At least not mine). You do wash your hair if you have dreadlocks (At least, I do!), and caucasion people can have dreadlocks as much as any person. Having dreadlocks is not in the least a sign that I am trying to be something that I am not, but I have them because I like them and think they are beautiful. I’m normally not a person to go around posting pictures of myself, but the dread thing can be an interesting process, so I thought I would post about them here. Some might say, “What does this have to do with crochet?”, Well, some people actually crochet their dreads, so it could very well have to do with crochet…

Anyway, so here are pics. I plan on progressively posting pics to show their progress. Here are some pics of the past couple weeks:

a-head/dreadband-a-day — #1

Well, I’ve decided to try something. I absolutely LOVE making hats, but with Spring approaching, well, there wont be as great a need for hats, sooo, I’ve decided to try to make one headband a day and post here. Here is todays “a-head/dreadband-a-day”:

If you like this head/dreadband, you can find the pattern here. The pattern is free and works up super fast. I’ve made two of these already.
